Commonly used Microsoft software products, including Windows and Office, are licensed for use on all University-owned or -leased computers for the term of the agreement. Each participating campus centrally funds this agreement, covering the cost of licenses. Product licenses including Visio, Project, MapPoint, SQL Server and SQL Server CALs may be purchased from SHI, Software House International. A quote may be requested by sending an email to edgov@shi.com. You will also need at least one copy of the software distribution media or electronic ISO to install the product (the same media may be used for all machines that you've licensed for the product). Media may either be purchased from SHI or borrowed from the ITaP Contracts and Licensing Group if licenses have been purchased. The Microsoft Student Select agreement provides a license and download for selected Microsoft software for Purdue students, Faculty and Staff. Licenses may be perpetual or term and use of the software is not restricted to University-related work.The higher price for Student Select software is because the individual pays for all of the discounted license rather than part of the license fee being subsidized by the University (as through the EES).
The Microsoft Volume Licensing Services (MVLS) is provided for select IT Technicians to manage EES product downloads and keys for their department. Access is provided to one IT Manager per department and those managers may save software downloads and distribute to other IT Admins in their department. IT Technicians with access are responsible for controlling downloads, being sure they are contract compliant, and logging and securing keys. This is important because any audit findings will be the responsibility of the department.

If you want to build 64-bit extensions, you MUST install Professional or later Community versions of Visual Studio, which can be obtained for free if you have a student ID card from Microsoft Dreamspark or just download one of the later Community versions from Microsoft for personal and open-source use. Python/Cython was built with Visual Studio, so depending on your Python version, you will require exactly the Visual Studio versions listed in the table below.
All four compilers should co-exist happily on the path, so you should be fine installing all four, but they are rather sizable installs.
